2014/15 Coach Development Programme confirmed

As the 2013/14 season draws to an exciting conclusion, the WRU/Ospreys Coach Development team have confirmed details of the 2014/15 programme and a variety of courses that will run through the season

Consistently acclaimed as setting the standard in Wales by 1st4sport Qualifications, an awarding body recognised and regulated by the Office of the Qualifications and Examinations Regulator (Ofqual), the team will be running a variety of formal courses aimed at helping grow the number of qualified coaches operating within the region.

These will be supplemented by more focussed events across the year targeting specific areas of the game. The usual Level One, Two and Three courses appear on the schedule, along with badges specifically for those working with children, while for the first time the team will deliver the IRB Strength & Conditioning Level One is included in the programme.

The development team is  also facilitating delivery of the full range of WRU Referees Courses.

Dan Owens, WRU/Ospreys Coach Development Officer, said

“2014/15 promises to be another busy year for coach development in the Ospreys region. We’ve put together a wide and varied programme that covers off all levels, from those making the first steps on the coach development pathway right through to the highest level. From Coaching Children (U7-U13) Level One through to National Level Three, there is something for every aspirational coach.

“With the support of the management team at the Ospreys, we are able to work together to deliver a calendar of events throughout the year, like the development evening held at Bridgend with Chris Gibbes and Gruff Rees recently or this week’s similar event at Gowerton on Wednesday with Steve Tandy and Dan Griffiths, which all act to raise the standard of coaching at clubs across the region.

“Better coaches equals better players, and that philosophy is at the heart of everything we do at the Ospreys. By improving the quality of coaching at community clubs, at minis, junior, youth and senior level, it will directly impact on both playing numbers and the quality of player. This is crucial to the long term sustainability of the game in the region.”
