Ospreys TV: Bishop joins exclusive 200 club

Andrew Bishop will become only the second player to reach 200 appearances for the Ospreys when he faces Treviso on Friday night and Ospreys TV caught up with him at Llandarcy this week.

Andrew Bishop will become only the second player in the 11-year history of the Ospreys to make 200 appearances for the region this Friday night.

The 29-year old joins prop Duncan Jones in passing the landmark figure, after making his debut for the region in a win over the now defunct Borders side at the Gnoll back in February 2005 as the Ospreys edged their way towards a first Celtic League title.

He soon established himself as a key figure in the Ospreys midfield, and has been a mainstay in the team for more than nine years since, playing a major part in three more league title successes and featuring in both EDF Energy Cup Finals against Leicester at Twickenham, scoring a try in the 2008 win at HQ. He completed his century almost exactly five years ago, in September 2009, against Leinster.

On two separate occasions Bishop has clocked up 29 Ospreys appearances in a single season, a statistic never bettered by any other player.

Bishop has also been capped by Wales at all levels, with 16 full caps to his credit since his debut in South Africa in the summer of 2008.

Hailed by Ospreys Chairman, Roger Blyth, as “a true Osprey through and through”, Bishop spoke to Ospreys TV ahead of joining Duncan in the 200 club:
