Scarlets ticket sales soaring

As the Christmas derby against the Scarlets heads towards becoming the region’s biggest crowd in two years, supporters are being encouraged to buy now or risk missing out.

With almost four weeks still to go until the Scarlets visit the Liberty Stadium on Saturday 27th December (KO 5.15pm), the number of tickets issued have already passed the biggest crowd of the season to date, the 10,821 that watched the Ospreys beat Cardiff Blues in October, and with demand set to grow over the coming weeks the message is buy now to avoid disappointment.

The fixture has traditionally provided the highest crowd of the season when played on a Boxing Day, and this year’s move to the Saturday between Christmas and New Year doesn’t appear to have changed that.

Chief Executive, Andrew Hore, said:

“Local derbies over the Christmas have become enshrined in Welsh rugby culture and in the modern game they don’t come much bigger than Ospreys v Scarlets. Supporters enjoy attending a game over the holiday period with family and friends for what becomes a fantastic social occasion, and it’s fantastic to be able to confirm that crowd figure at this point is already higher than any home game this season to date.

“As the game gets closer and excitement grows among supporters of both teams, then demand will increase. I’d expect that we will once again be putting up the sold out signs well in advance of matchday so if I have one piece of advice, it is don’t hang about if you intend buying tickets for the Scarlets match. If you leave it too long, you could end up missing out completely.”

The Scarlets game is just one fixture in a busy month of big match rugby at the Liberty Stadium in December, with French giants Racing Metro visiting this Saturday (6th December, 3.15pm KO) before PRO12 high fliers Ulster arrive two weeks later (20th December, 5.15pm KO) with the Scarlets derby a week after that.

It’s a month that will shape the rest of the season for the region, and Hore hopes that supporters will turn out in numbers right through December.

“The Scarlets game is huge, but it is just one third of a vitally important month” he said.

“Tandy, the coaching team, and the players, have been doing some fantastic work in very difficult circumstances, and it’s crucial that the community gets behind such a young group this month.

“We’re still in contention in Europe and are doing well in the PRO12 but people are quick to forget how this team was widely written off in the summer because they are so young. The reaction of the team has been fantastic and they are playing for the jersey, for the region, and are doing everybody proud.

“With factors like the fourth international, injuries, etc, it’s very much backs to the wall at the moment, but that’s when people pull together in adversity. It’s going to be a very tough month, which is why they need the supporters to get behind them in numbers at each of these games, not just the Scarlets.

“If we can fight our way through December with some battling performances that can make everyone proud, then we can go into 2015 on a high, on and off the field.”

Tickets for all of December’s home matches are on sale now at the Liberty Stadium Ticket Office, online at www.ospreysrugby.com/buytickets or via the Ticket Hotline on 0844 8156665, priced from £20 (adults), with child prices starting at £5.

Alternatively, the brand new Flexi Ticket offers supporters the opportunity to ‘have it your way’, and pick selected matches of their choice from the regular season fixture list that they wish to attend, benefiting from a special rate that allows them to enjoy four matches for the price of three - a saving of up to 25% against regular matchday prices.

You can opt to watch all three home games in December and then pick one additional fixture in the New Year – or any combination of four matches that suit you.

The procedure for purchasing a Flexi Ticket is exactly the same as buying any normal matchday ticket and you don’t need to choose your matches now, as you will be issued four vouchers at the time of purchase which can then be exchanged for the match tickets of your choice, right up until two hours before kick-off.
