Ospreys roll up to the circus

Ospreys players have been juggling their on-field commitments this week, helping out at Circus Eruption, the youth charity supporting young people to learn new skills and confidence.

As part of the Ospreys’ ongoing Pitch-In campaign to support good causes and initiatives across Ospreylia, members of the squad including internationals Aaron Jarvis, Josh Matavesi and Tyler Ardron spent time working with around 50 youngsters at Circus Eruption in a class designed to improve their strength and conditioning through a number of fun and adaptable exercises.

Circus Eruption aims to help young people learn new skills in a safe environment that promotes inclusion, participation, creative expression and the challenging of inequality, disadvantage and discrimination.

Thanks to funding from Children In Need, the group runs workshops for young people in the Neath, Port Talbot and Swansea areas, including a regular Tuesday night circus in Parc Tawe, which the Ospreys attended yesterday.

Martha Bull, Circus Eruption Activity Worker, comments: “The young people who attended the session had great fun with the players and picked up some good tips for building strength and conditioning, which is key for developing circus skills.

“The youngsters also benefited from the players’ ‘can do’ attitude, which is great for Circus Eruption as we aim to get all young people who attend to keep saying ‘I can’ rather than ‘I can’t’.”

Andrew Hore, CEO of Ospreys Rugby: “We are hugely passionate about supporting our local community and this latest instalment of our Pitch In campaign gave us another great chance to help out.

“The campaign has proved hugely popular so far and we are delighted some of our players have been out and about again, mixing with our supporters and assisting Circus Eruption’s invaluable work with young people.”

As part of the Pitch In campaign, the Ospreys are welcoming suggestions for suitable projects, and are asking members of the community to nominate individuals, clubs or organisations that will welcome the assistance.
