Almost 2,000 school children from across Ospreylia will take part in events at Swansea Bay, Aberavon Beach and Rest Bay in June and July.
The year 5 and 6 pupils from schools the length and breadth of region have signed up for the three day festival of rugby that will be held at beaches across Ospreylia and will enjoy a full day of activities and TAG rugby games co-ordinated by the Ospreys new Community Rugby Officer, Tom Sloane.
All three days of event are fully subscribed, meaning this year’s beach rugby festival will be the biggest one yet.
The Ospreys beach TAG event starts on June 29th at Rest Bay in Porthcawl where almost 500 children aged between 9 and 11 from Mynydd Cynffig, Nantyfyfllon, Ogmore Vale, Ysgol Y Ferch o'r Sger, Tondu, Cefn Cribwr, Litchard, Newton, West Park, Nottage, Coychurch, Glais, Nantymoel, Pencoed and Cwmfelin Schools have signed up to take part.
The next day (30th June) Aberavon Beach will be the setting for the day of rugby fun with more than 500 pupils from Cilffriw, St Therese, Caerau, Blaenhonddan, Ysgol Gymraeg Tyle'r Ynn, St Josephs, Blaenbaglan, Llanwgiwg, Tonmawr, Castell Nedd, Alltwen, Groes, Llangewydd, Cynwyd Sant, and Cwmllynfell Primary Schools.
The three-day event culminates on July 1st when more than 700 pupils will gather on Swansea Bay to take part in the festival designed to introduce rugby to youngsters across the region. Year 5 and 6 pupils from Penyrheol, Craigfelin, Penclawdd, St Helens, Tirdaenaw, Townhill, St Thomas, Whitestone, Caerau, Cadle, Dunvant, Knelston, Llanrhidian, Gendros, Newton, Pentrecwyth, Clwyd, Gwyrosydd, Trebanos, Pengelli, Penllergaer, Pontlliw, Danygraig, Cwm Glas, Talycopa, Gowerton, Pontardawe and Glyncollen Primary Schools will join in on the sold out event.
Speaking about the Ospreys TAG Beach Rugby Festival, Tom Sloane said:
"We're delighted to once again be holding the beach rugby events across the region and this year will be our biggest one yet with almost 60 schools having signed up and close to 2,000 children set to take part.
"At the Ospreys we are passionate about grassroots rugby and getting children involved in the sport and events such as these are such a great way to showcase the game to youngsters that perhaps wouldn't otherwise take part. We are blessed that given the costal nature of Ospreylia we can run these kind of festivals in a fun and different place."
