Two physios join support team

The Ospreys have strengthened the behind the scenes support team at Llandarcy with the appointment of two new physiotherapists.

The pair both have strong links to the region and will be familiar faces to many within the rugby community.

Cardiff University graduate, Matthew Bowen, has been involved within the regional pathway for a number of years, working with the Ospreys age-grade teams and Swansea RFC, and being part of the region’s LV= Cup management team, prior to working full-time with Cardiff City FC.

Joining him at the Ospreys is Anthony Carter. From Bridgend, Carter played for the Ravens as a youngster, prior to the inception of regional rugby and the formation of the Celtic Warriors, and has spent the last 10 years playing in the English Championship, with Rotherham, Doncaster and, finally, Moseley, for who he made over 100 appearances before retiring at the end of 2014/15.

Like Bowen, Carter studied at Cardiff University, and he combined his rugby career with one in the medical field, working for the Aneurin Bevan NHS Trust, as well as Aston Villa FC, England Netball and the Wales team at the 2014 Glasgow Commonwealth Games.

The pair will assist with servicing players within the A, B and C groups and will be involved in the day to day injury management and treatment of players, as well as being involved in delivery of rehab to injured squad members.

Medical Performance Manager, Chris Towers, said:

“Anthony and Matthew are two key appointments that will have important roles to play within our medical team this season and I’d like to welcome them to the Ospreys.

“As well as assisting with day-to-day operations, Matthew will focus primarily on working with players from the elite youth development programme, educating them on injury prevention and rehab, while Anthony will use his experience in fine tuning our return to play well and rehab process across the senior group of players.

“it is impossible to underestimate the importance of a strong sports medicine team within our environment and these appointments will allow us to further enhance delivery of service across all our squads.”
