He’s set to make his 50th appearance for the Ospreys against Ulster on Friday night, so we caught up with prop Tom Botha ahead of him reaching the milestone.
“It’s a really proud moment for me specially to get to this achievement with the Ospreys who are such a good side and a big club, so I’m really happy. I’ve had such a good time since I’ve been here and made some really good mates. I’ve adapted well to the Welsh culture and just really enjoyed my time here.”
The South-African born tighthead joined the Ospreys back in the Summer of 2018 and quickly became a popular and well-respected member of the squad. During his first season, Botha notched up an impressive 26 games, more than any other player.
Now in his third season, Botha is looking forward to the future with the Ospreys and playing against teams from his native South Africa in the Guinness PRO14 Rainbow Cup.
“They’ll bring some very big scrums to the competition, strong mauls and a solid set piece. They’ll have to adapt to the conditions when they play here and vice versa but it’ll be interesting to see and a challenge we’re all looking forward to. It’s going to be nice playing against different sides in a different competition. It will keep things interesting and can only be a good thing for the league.
“It’ll be great to watch too. It’s been tough not having the supporters with us at the grounds so we’re definitely looking forward to them returning when it’s safe to do so.”
Looking ahead to tonight’s game, Botha knows the challenge our opponents pose:
“Ulster are a very good side especially at home. We’ll have to be clinical and make sure we’re on top of our game to come out with the win.”
