Try scorer Tommy Bowe relieved to get the win against a Biarritz team packed with "world class players".
Speaking shortly after the final whistle on Saturday, Bowe said:
“It’s a very important win for us and we are happy to have seen them off, but we won’t be happy about giving them a bonus point.
“It’s always nice to get over the line, even if it was just about!
“It was a very scrappy first half, neither side could keep hold of the ball and there seemed to be a lot of penalties and a lot of mistakes. In the second half we managed to build a bit of possession and get a bit of territory, which proved fruitful for us in the end.
“I think we realised that we had to step it up in the second half. We were at home and we were desperate for the win and we are delighted to have a good start.
“There are world class players in the Biarritz team, they are very smart and they knew what they had to do but they couldn’t get over the whitewash again at the end. It was real bodies on the line stuff.
“It’s very difficult for boys to come straight back into the team after the World Cup and it’s the same problem for Biarritz, but I think the Welsh boys blended in well and hopefully as time goes on and we see more of them we’ll get stronger and stronger.
“Treviso are next and they are playing really well. We’ve seen that they’ve really stepped up this year and they are not an easy team to turnover. We’ve got the home win to start up with and we’ll be going over there with positive intent. It’s going to be difficult but we know what we’ve got to do so this week will be about preparing well.”
