Bridgend College will play host to the Japanese under 20 team which will be in Wales for the under 20 World Cup in June.
Director of Rugby at the college and former Wales under 19 coach Gareth Nicholas said "When the WRU asked for someone to host a fixture with Japanese squad, we at the college were adamant it would be us. As a college we are relatively new in rugby terms in comparison to some of our more illustrious colleagues. However, recent statistics demonstrate our serious intent to be in the top echelons of schools and college rugby". Nicholas added "this season we were runners up in the Super 16's Tournament that is held for the top English and Welsh Colleges. In the final we lost to the long established Hartpury College; a college which inspires us with both the quality of its facilities and playing standards. In the Welsh Schools Cup Final we overcome Coleg Sir Gaer at Swansea's St Helens ground, to win our first national tournament. We also added to the silverware this season by winning the Llandovery College 7 a-side tournament." Nicholas will bolster his squad by bringing in some former students such as Bridgend hooker Scott Baldwin, to ensure that he is able to provide a competitive fixture for their Japanese vistors. The team will also include a host of established Young Ospreys such as 2nd Row Lloyd Peers (pictured) and back row forward Bill Carey (pictured jumping). The fixture will take place at Bridgend College's Pencoed site on Saturday 31st May, 3pm kick off.
