A record breaking 1,600 people joined Ospreys in the Community at the Liberty Stadium on derby day thanks to Hamilton Developments’ support of the Show Us Your Colours campaign.
1,600 people from 13 clubs joined a 13,000 strong crowd atthe Liberty Stadium just before Christmas to witness the Ospreys beating regional rivals the Scarlets thanks to the Show Us Your Colours campaign, and Ospreylian based property company Hamilton Developments.
27 buses ferried the teams to the stadium for free after Hamilton Developments supported the initiative, now in it’s third year, and teams were provided with a bus for every 50 tickets bought.
It wasn’t just one great day out that they teams were competing for however, the team that brought the most people to the #BIGONE were to win a second derby day out with the same amount of tickets purchased being given to them for free to watch the Ospreys take on the Dragons in March.
It was a tight competition with Pontardulais and Swansea Uplands RFC both bringing over 200 supporters to the match, but the eventual winners were……Swansea Uplands!
Tom Sloane, Ospreys in the Community Programme Co-ordinator, commented on the campaign:
“We had a fantastic response to the Show Your Colours initiative and are absolutely delighted that we reached a record number of clubs and people attending this year. They really added a lot to the atmosphere of the game and the feedback we’ve had from the teams is that everyone really enjoyed their festive day out.
“We really appreciate the support of the clubs all year round and to see them come in such numbers to the big one was incredible. Our thanks go to Hamilton Developments for their support in making it possible and to our partners DJ Thomas for providing the buses along with Gwyn Jones.
“Our congratulations, and thanks, go to Swansea Uplands for bringing over 200 people to the game, becoming the largest representation. As a club they’re very supportive of the Ospreys, they brought almost 150 people to watch the Edinburgh game earlier this season and we look forward to seeing them again at the Dragons game as their reward.”
