Following the conclusion of the WRU Regional Age-Grade season, 33 players have been named in a combined Ospreys squad for the forthcoming round robin U16 regional tournament.
The coaches have selected a squad almost evenly split between the two teams, with 16 named from the East and 17 from the West.
There were mixed fortunes for the U16s teams during the second block of games. The West side got off to a shaky start with a loss to a strong Cardiff Blues South side, but their fortunes soon turned as they went on to record 4 wins on the bounce. Included in those was an impressive 64-14 win away to the Dragons Red, followed by a 40-7 win at St Helen’s against the Scarlets. The young side then travelled to Colwyn Bay to face RGC and picked up a 24-17 win after a last-minute try secured the victory for the visitors. The West side rounded off their season with the Ospreylian bragging rights, where they clinched the 24-7 win over the Ospreys East.
The East side kicked off their campaign with a well earned 15-12 win over the Scarlets, before going on to record a 21-7 win over the Dragons the following week. The young side then fell to a strong Cardiff Blues side, before falling just short the following week to RGC. The East tried to finish off their campaign with a win over their Ospreylian counterparts, but the West side proved too strong in the end.
