Dan Biggar with the RaboDirect Pro12 trophy

Dan Biggar announces retirement at the end of the season

Ospreys Rugby today extends its congratulations and best wishes to former fly-half Dan Biggar, who has announced his retirement from professional rugby at the end of the season. While Dan is retiring as a Toulon player, his legacy at the Ospreys is undeniable, and his contributions to the club will always be remembered.

A product of the Ospreys’ pathway, Biggar gained his early rugby experience with Gorseinon RFC and Gowerton Comprehensive in Swansea, before representing the region at age-grade level and playing for Swansea RFC in the Welsh Premiership.

He made his senior Ospreys debut as an 18-year old, as a late replacement in an EDF Energy Cup semi-final win over Saracens at the Millennium Stadium in 2008, with his first start coming in an away win over Glasgow in September later that year.

During his time with the Ospreys, Dan made 221 appearances and scored 2,203 points, making him the club’s record point scorer by some distance. As a key member of the squad, Dan was instrumental in securing two Pro12 titles in 2010, and 2012.

Speaking on his time at the Ospreys, Dan said: “It was a dream to play for the Ospreys, and to have contributed to the club’s success. It was all I wanted to do when I was younger. I feel very lucky to have played as many times and scored as many points as I did for my hometown club.”

In addition to his club achievements, Dan also made his mark on the international stage, making over 100 appearances for Wales and featuring for the British and Irish Lions. The Ospreys are proud to have played a significant role in his development into one of rugby's elite.

As Dan steps away from professional rugby, the Ospreys wish him every success for the future. His impact on the club and the game will be felt for many years to come.
