Edinburgh vs Ospreys: Ones to Watch

The boys travel to Edinburgh this week in the Road to the Knockouts.

It’s a big fixture with some big players (quite literally), so let’s take a look at this week’s Ones to Watch.

Viliame Mata

An Olympian, Mata was part of the Fijian team that defeated Great Britain 43-7 to claim the country’s first ever gold medal in 2016.

Mata soon brought his sevens experience and more to Edinburgh, going on to become the first non-Scottish qualified player to reach 100 appearances for the team.

“Big Bill” is amongst the BKT URC league leaders in successful carries this season and it was that destructive carrying that has seen him previously nominated for EPCR European Player of the Year award.

Emiliano Boffelli

Born in Rosario (similarly to another Argentinian that happens to be good with his feet), Boffelli is one of the world’s best goal kickers.

He showcased his right foot in Argentina’s historic win against New Zealand last year, kicking 100% off the tee. 100% is always an impressive feat but when you consider the fact he kicked six penalties and a conversion, from all areas of the park, against New Zealand, in New Zealand, it speaks for itself.

The fullback/wing is more than just a kicker though, he’s a quality playmaker and a real dynamo in Edinburgh’s offence. Look out for him in this fixture.

Hamish Watson

Another one of Edinburgh’s key carriers, Watson has been nicknamed pinball for his ability to bounce off opposition tacklers.

The back row was amongst seven players released from Scotland camp to face the Ospreys, and he has the capability to be a real game changer for Edinburgh.

Watson has become a fan favourite since making his debut against Cardiff Rugby back in 2011, he did however have to wait two years for his first try, which came against the Ospreys in 2013.
