Ieuan Cornelius is a name that might’ve jumped out at you when you saw the Ospreys squad announcement for the team’s development fixture against the Dragons on Saturday.
We sat down with the new recruit in the build up to the game to discuss his rugby journey to this point, and his Welsh roots.
Ieuan was born in New Zealand and is half-Māori, half-Welsh. He spent some of his childhood living in Swansea, his dad being a Swansea native, but a majority of his playing career took place in Australia.
A utility back, Ieuan was previously part of the Queensland Reds setup and also has a background in athletics. The 6’2, 19 year old, was recently plying his trade at Bond University in Australia, and was coached by All Blacks legend, Rico Gear, at u20s level and for the Men's Elite Sevens.
Speaking on his move, Cornelius said: "Being here, back home with the Ospreys, feels right. I get to train amongst some of the best players in the world. The likes of Jac Morgan, Dewi and Beardy, it’s an awesome experience.”
