The Ospreys have officially announced the signing of a new contract for promising fly half Dan Edwards, a testament to the club's commitment to nurturing homegrown talent and building a sustainable team for the future.
Edwards, a 20-year-old standout who has risen through the ranks of Ospreys' player pathway, has been a crucial player for Wales’ u20s squad in recent times. His performances have not only drawn attention from coaches and media alike but have also earned him a well-deserved tag as a rising star within the club’s senior side.
The young fly half had a debut to remember this season against the Scarlets, scoring a superb try back in November. Edwards has since made his first start for the team, making six appearances in total, whilst picking up 26 points in the process.
A product of Cwmafan RFC, Edwards has been part of the Ospreys’ development pathway for a few years now, honing his skills and developing his game in the same soil that has produced rugby legends. This new contract signifies the Ospreys' promise to give young Welsh talent like Edwards the platform to excel at the highest levels of the game.
Speaking on the deal, Edwards said: ”It’s a dream come true to sign this contract with the team I've grown up supporting. The Ospreys have always been at the forefront of my rugby aspirations, and to commit my future here is an incredible feeling. I'm grateful for the opportunity to continue my development and contribute to the team wherever I can.
Head Coach Toby Booth expressed his delight over Edwards' contract renewal, saying: "Dan is a prime example of what our youth development system aims to produce — dedicated, skilled, and passionate players ready for the rigours of professional rugby. His growth has been noticeable, and we are confident that he will be a key player for the Ospreys in the years to come."
Through nurturing their own, the Ospreys continue to contribute to the Welsh talent pool, providing the national team with potential future international stars.
Ospreys' fans will be excited to see their young fly half shine as he dons the team's famous black jersey in the seasons to come. With a strong foundation and fierce determination, Edwards is poised to soar to new heights with the Ospreys.
