Young people from Morriston Primary, Terrace Road Primary and St.Helen's Primary attended the Liberty Stadium this week to take part in an educational event hosted by Show Racism the Red Card.
Former Wales footballer Steve Jenkins and SRtRC Education Worker Ceri Nicolle delivered a workshop to the youngsters using interactive activities and discussions.
Prior to attending the event, pupils were set a task to prepare for the afternoon’s anti-racism “press conference”.
Pupils had to create a newspaper name and were required to read newspapers and online blogs to explore how they are designed and written, as well as researching racism in sport.
They also watched an educational DVD which gave them a last opportunity to obtain further knowledge on the topic before the question and answer session in our “media / press conference event”, attended by Ospreys players Marc Thomas and Dan Suter.
The school children took the role of newspaper journalists, posing some really challenging questions for the players, the pupil with the best question winning a signed Ospreys shirt and match ball along with a SRtRC goodie bag.
When the pupils return to school they will use all the information they had learnt at the event along with the responses from the players to write and design their article.
