Ospreys vs Edinburgh
26th October 2024
Dunraven Brewery Field

Back the the Brewery, there was a big game at head for an Ospreys team on the hunt for a win.

Some back and forth in the early stages soon gave way to Ospreys pressure in the Edinburgh half.

TRY FOR OSPREYS! A strong lineout went to the maul and Dewi Lake powered his way over the line. Owen Williams converted, Ospreys 7-0 Edinburgh.

Edinburgh tried to answer back quickly with some pressure of their own in Ospreys territory, but a big defensive stop from the boys allowed Ospreys to clear their lines.

Just before the 20 minute mark, Edinburgh were able to put a penalty through the posts to get their first score on the board. Ospreys 7-3 Edinburgh.

Ospreys had a penalty of their own shortly after within kicking range, but the effort was unsuccessful.

Edinburgh went over for their first try of the game just as we passed the 20 minute mark. Vellacott sniped a score after his pack build on a few carries near the Ospreys’ line. Conversion successful. Ospreys 7-10 Edinburgh.

With half time approaching, Jac Morgan came away with a huge turnover on the fringes of the Ospreys 22. After a brief kicking battle, Jack Walsh dinked a smart ball over the top and brought down the Edinburgh defender after a tenacious kick chase.

But Edinburgh held strong and the score remained the same as we went on for the half.

HALF TIME:  Ospreys 7-10 Edinburgh

Ospreys looked like they were going to start the second half like they started the first. But a tackle by Rueben Morgan-Williams was deemed to be sufficient for a yellow by the referee and the Ospreys were reduced to 14.

The boys responded well to the yellow. A wicked pass out wide from Jack Walsh with the penalty advantage from the scrum saw Keelan find some space down the wing and get the ball close to the line. It looked like Jac Morgan had powered over for the score, but the ball was knocked on over the line.

A penalty advantage allowed the Ospreys to keep the pressure on Edinburgh, with multiple infringements from the away side seeing Jamie Ritchie sent to the bin. But the away side held firm and forced an error from the Ospreys before clearing their lines.

TRY FOR OSPREYS! Some relentless pressure from the pack meant that Edinburgh could only hold on for so long and Gareth Thomas was able to bully his way over for the try. Conversion missed. Ospreys 12-10 Edinburgh.

Jack Walsh and Jac Morgan were both putting on a world class show for a noisy set of supporters.

A particular piece of play around 60 minutes saw Walshy play a smart kick with the outside of his foot into space in the Edinburgh 22. Keiran Williams made the tackle and Jac Morgan came away with a massive turnover to win the penalty. Owen Williams kicked for the points. Ospreys 15-10 Edinburgh.

Edinburgh quickly answered back with a penalty of their own to bring the scores within two again. All to play for in the last 15 minutes. Ospreys 15-13 Edinburgh.

Sustained pressure in the Edinburgh 22 saw an Ospreys lineout ready to put on the pressure. Sam Parry was on the pitch to hit his darts and the maul rumbled towards the line. Parry dotted down to finish his own play. Ospreys 22-13 Edinburgh.

A frantic finish to the game saw the clock go red but Ospreys still piling on the pressure. Keelan Giles looked like he might score with an 80 metre run, but Edinburgh were able to bring him down.

Then an Ospreys lineout released a rampaging Justin Tipuric, before the ball finally went dead.
