Ospreys Rugby and Ospreys in the Community are pledging our support for Stonewall’s Rainbow Laces campaign this weekend.
We want to ensure that the Liberty Stadium, and rugby as a sport, is an inclusive environment for everyone, regardless of age, gender, ability or sexual preference and the two organisations will jointly showcase our backing for Rainbow Laces at the European Rugby Champions Cup game against Clermont Auvergne this Sunday (15th October) .
The Rainbow Laces campaign, which looks to use sport to promote inclusion and diversity to make sure no one feels excluded from taking part as a fan, player, coach, official or supporter.
Since its launch in 2013, Rainbow Laces has attracted the support of leading organisations such the Football Association, Premier League and Football League, Premiership Rugby and the England and Wales Cricket Board, with players and officials backing the campaign.
Players and staff at the Ospreys and OitC have been invited to wear the famous rainbow laces on Sunday to show their support and have also signed a pledge to support and welcome teammates and fans of all ages, genders, abilities and sexuality.
We will also be visibly backing the campaign across our social media channels in the lead up to the match as well as on our big screens in bowl pre match.
Andrew Millward, Managing Director Ospreys Rugby, commented on the campaign:
“We are absolutely committed to making sure everyone feels welcome at the Liberty Stadium, and part of the team. We have a diverse workforce and supporter base, and are fully behind the Rainbow Laces campaign and the inclusion message that it promotes. Whatever your sexuality, gender, age or ability, everybody is exactly the same.
“Sport should be everyone’s game and as, a rugby team and a business, we pledge our support for a campaign that is encouraging everybody to think about their behaviour and the environment we create at the Ospreys.”
Tickets for the game against Clermont can be purchased at the Liberty Stadium Ticket Office and at ospreysrugby.com/buytickets. Group tickets for more than 15 people can be purchased by calling the Ospreys in the Community Team on 01792 616512.
