Ospreys in the Community launch ‘Destination edYOUcation'

Calling all Year 11 leavers! Ospreys in the Community officially launched 'Destination edYOUcation' today, which is an Education & Employability programme provided by Ospreys in the Community & NPTC Group of Colleges.

The programme will be led by Employability & Education officers from Ospreys in the Community and will give learners a chance to develop Employability skills such as communication, teamwork, leadership, wellbeing, resilience, workplace behaviours, opportunities & physical activity.

DE will be bolstered by commercial partners of the Ospreys, such as Moorehouse group, NPTC Group of Colleges, Philtronics, The Army, The Navy, STEM Cymru plus many more. Learners will also get the chance to obtain two qualifications whilst on the programme.

‘Destination edYOUcation’ is designed for students who are unsure of what do to for their next steps following school, and it’s aims are to inspire, further educate and help learners explore wider available opportunities - including apprenticeships, A-levels & vocational courses.

Starting on Tuesday 1st August at Llandarcy Academy of Sport / Ospreys High Performance Centre – The programme will run on Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday, every week, for 5 weeks, between 10am and 2pm.

Students either need to not have a destination planned for September 2023 (further education) or a secured college/sixth form place but are still unsure if the option they’ve selected is what they want to do next.

Attendees of the course, will be paid £10 per day and would be reimbursed travel costs (T&C’s apply).

OITC Education & Employability Coordinator, Nick White said:

“We’re really pleased to offer Destination edYOUcation to learners across the region, this summer. Making big decisions at 16 years old can be very tough and from our TACKLE programme (12-16 years old), we noticed that there were quite a few students who were struggling to decide what to do next.

"We know that using the power of sport, our partnership with Neath Port Talbot Group of colleges, and other commercial partners we can help learners make more informed decisions about their futures, whether that be an apprenticeship, A-levels, vocational courses, or employment.

"By the time we start the programme, majority of learners will have completed their GCSE exams – A very stressful time in their lives, so we look forward to being able to provide them with a fun environment to be in, whilst also gaining access to critical skills and opportunities to learn more about further education or the working world."
