EPCR Challenge Cup
Swansea.com Stadium
6th April 2025
A meeting with our neighbours from the West in a European knockout for the first time ever, with a EPCR Challenge Cup Quarter Final on the line. The result? A dominant six-try performance where Ospreys held the lead from the very first minute, and never gave it up.
We were on the attack from kick off as Jac Morgan immediately broke down the left wing and: TRY FOR THE OSPREYS! Jac popped it off to Jack Walsh, who was eventually brought down. The pack picked up the mantle and Adam Beard crashed over for our first score within a minute. Dan Edwards converted. Ospreys 7 - 0 Scarlets.
TRY FOR OSPREYS! We were in again from the restart as Dan Eds picked up a charged down Scarlets kick and ran half the pitch, stepping several defenders before he was eventually brought down by the last man. The Recovering Scarlets defence were powerless as captain Jac went over for the score. Conversion missed. Ospreys 12 - 0 Scarlets.
Scarlets answered back soon after, as Blair Murray was the benefactor of a breakaway to bring it back to a one score game. Alec Hepburn's conversion was good. Ospreys 12 - 7 Scarlets.
The boys were flying into some monstrous collisions on both sides of the ball as we battled in the midfield. Rueben Morgan-Williams was in control behind the ruck, marshalling his troops through the gaps. Dan Edwards attempted a drop goal on 25 minutes, but it was just short.
Ospreys were piling on extended pressure in the Scarlets 22. Scarlets conceded four penalties, including two from the scrum, but Gareth Thomas was eventually held up over the line.
Ospreys hit straight back as Dan Edwards nailed a 50-22 to put us right back on the front foot.
TRY FOR THE OSPREYS! The forwards didn't miss on the next attempt as a incredible break from Reuben Morgan-Williams ended in Rhys Davies barging over for the score. Conversion was good from Dan Eds. Ospreys 19 - 7 Scarlets.
The Ospreys redzone defence was on fire in the first half. Two Scarlets lineouts on the boys’ five were unsuccessful and eventually turned over after some tenacious work at the maul. We maintained the pressure as the end the half approached, with strong carrying from the forwards driving possession down the field.
TRY FOR OSPREYS! It was four within forty as Dewi Lake powered over from close range to wrap up the half and send us in on the front foot. The conversion from Dan Eds was good. Ospreys 26 - 7 Scarlets.
HALF TIME: Ospreys 26 - 7 Scarlets.
There was no let up as Ospreys carried over their defensive momentum from the first half, holding up a Scarlets try over the line and securing a turnover on five metres on the repeat attack. Keiran Williams was monstrous in the midfield, putting in big hits for fun.
TRY FOR OSPREYS! Kasende put in a huge tackle after a kick chase which forced the ball loose, where it was booted downfield by Tips. The ball was whipped out wide through the hands and Jack Walsh gathered, lost it, gathered again and skipped in for the try against all odds. The conversion went wide. Ospreys 31 - 7 Scarlets.
The boys seemed to be winning every collision and it was showing on the scoreboard: every hit mattered and the 9000 fans who made the trip were showing their appreciation. Dan Kasende continued to pile on pressure, unplayable under the high ball.
TRY NUMBER 6 FOR THE OSPREYS! Luke Davies whipped out a pass that scrum halves dream of straight from the base of a scrum near the posts. Kasende collected it on the right wing and ran it in with ease. Conversion missed. Ospreys 36 - 7 Scarlets.
It had been all Ospreys in the second half, but there was a consolation try to come for Scarlets as neat passing from the the backs saw Eddie James dive over. Ioan Lloyd's conversion was good. Ospreys 36 - 14 Scarlets.
The final ten minutes saw continued Ospreys pressure with several attacking opportunities, including a swift break from Evardi Boshoff, but there were no more scores to come as the game finished with six tries for the Ospreys.
FULL TIME: Ospreys 36 - 14 Scarlets.
