Keelan Giles scores against Munster

Ospreys fall short against URC champions Munster

Ospreys fight back from 19 - 0 down to put pressure on reigning on URC champions Munster.

Munster put the points on the board early. The Ospreys’ maul defence stood strong on the outskirts of their 22, but the away side got the ball out and were able to finish in the corner. Try converted, 7-0.

With just over five minutes played Munster scored another after Sean O’Brien intercepted and ran the length of the field. Conversion missed, 12-0.

The second Munster score seemed to awaken the Ospreys. With a penalty advantage from the scrum, Morgan Morris grubbered down the wing and Keelan was inches away from touching it down for a try.

Ospreys went close again as Owen Williams broke through but his supporting runner just couldn’t make it.

Despite the Ospreys pressure, Munster intercepted another pass and were able to eventually finish after a grubber through. Carbery converted, 19-0.

Ospreys were having plenty of 22 entries but were just unable to breakdown the away side’s red zone defence.

TRY FOR OSPREYS! With five minutes to go, the Ospreys got on the scoreboard after they worked the ball out wide superbly to Keelan Giles to finish. An offload out the back from Evardi Boshoff being the pick of the passes as the ball went through multiple hands. Owen Williams hit the post from a tough angle, 19-5.

With half time approaching, Tips was sent to the bin as he was deemed to be playing the ball on the floor near the Ospreys tryline.

The team stood strong despite the man disadvantage and were able to close out the first half.

HALF TIME – OSPREYS 5, MUNSTER 19.

Ospreys started the second half well, but another 22 entry was fruitless as the Munster maul defence stood strong near their own line.

The Ospreys were able to work the ball infield but the away side turned the ball over and cleared their lines.

TRY FOR OSPREYS! The Ospreys continued to apply the pressure on the Munster defence, this time the rolling maul proved to be too much for them and Sam Parry came away with the score. Ow Wills converted a tough kick from wide left. Munster 19, Ospreys 12.

As we approached the 60-minute mark, Munster were able to answer back with a try through RG Snyman. Conversion missed, 24-12 to the away side.

Joey Carbery added to the Munster lead soon after the try with a penalty, 27-12.

Ospreys went close again following their maul but Munster were able to turn the ball over a few phases later after a strong carry from Sam Parry.

TRY FOR OSPREYS! With six minutes to go, the Ospreys carried relentlessly to break down the Munster defence before Cuthy bullied his way over for the score. Ow Wills was unable to convert from wide right, 27-17 Munster.

Ospreys continued to put the pressure on the visitors in the final phases. Alex Cuthbert make a brilliant break out wide, but there was heartbreak as he pulled up with a hamstring just short of the line.

Despite having a strong share of territory and possession, we came up short at the final whistle. A great comeback effort from an Ospreys team who always gives 100%.
