Ospreys will travel to Portsmouth on Wednesday to conduct an intense 3-day pre-season training camp at HMS EXCELLENT and HMS TEMERAIRE.
For the first time since before the Coronavirus pandemic, all players and rugby staff will head to the Royal Navy base as an extended group as preparations for the 22/23 season step up a gear.
The opportunity to train at the home of the Royal Navy Physical Training Branch provides an intense, high performance environment, where the Ospreys group will combine preparations for the new season alongside leadership and team building under the guidance of the military.
Ospreys Performance Director, Corin Palmer said: “To be able train in the fantastic facilities at HMS Temeraire whilst develop our team building and group dynamic within the challenging environment of The Damage Repair Instructional Unit (a sinking ship simulator) at HMS Excellent is exactly what is needed to advance our pre-season programme into the next phase.
“We are massively grateful to the Royal Navy for permitting us this novel opportunity and look forward progressing our pre-season schedule as well as developing our squad and making memories.”
Ospreys are set to kick-start their 2022/23 campaign when they head over to England for their pre-season friendly against Hartpury University RFC and two weeks later they meet Northampton Saints at the Brewery Field.
The first fixture against Hartpury University RFC will take place on Saturday, 20 August with a 2pm kick-off at Alpas Arena. The home clash against Northampton Saints will be on Friday, 2nd September, kicking off at 7pm.
