Ospreys/WRU Participation Officer Lisa Jones hosted a skills day for U15 girls at Llandarcy Academy of Sport at the weekend.
45 girls from right across South Wales attended the specially organised event, where they took part in a series of skills sessions, before competing in a round robin tournament.
The clubs represented at the skills day were Neath Athletic and Pencoed from within Ospreylia, along with Haverfordwest, Cardiff Quins and Garndiffaith.
Speaking about the event, Lisa Jones said:
“It was a very successful day. With no league structure in places for girls teams at this age-grade, the session is intended to provide U15 female rugby players with the opportunity to play against other teams, with the extra benefit of skills sessions that allow the girls to experience quality coaching from regional coaching staff.
“The more people we have with an interest in the game, whatever the age or gender, the stronger rugby will be in this region as a whole so it’s important to provide opportunities that enable us to develop skills, maintain enthusiasm and encourage girls to play in a friendly yet competitive environment.”
There will be a further U15 girls skills day taking place at Aberdare RFC on Sunday 25th March which Lisa will be supporting on behalf of the Ospreys Community Rugby team.
