Speaking ahead of the game, coach Tom Smith said:
“We’re looking forward to getting back together after a few weeks apart. Connacht Eagles are bit of an unknown quantity, as like us they don’t play week in week out. However, from going out to Connacht in the past we know that it is a tough place to go and are expecting a battle.
“We were well beaten down in Penzance, and were not only disappointed with the result but also with our performance, as we felt we didn’t back up the good performance we put in the previous week against London Irish. However, it is another game under the belt for this young squad and all adds to the experience they are getting. They say that you learn more from losing than you do from winning and hopefully it will give us a little more steel and determination going into this weekend.
“We’ve kept a similar squad from the last two matches, with a few injured players returning from injury that weren’t playing against the Pirates. Also a few new faces from the Premiership clubs have been given a place, after some good performances in the last couple of rounds of the Principality Premiership. It’s still a really young team that’s learning and growing together, but they have trained really well this week with lots of energy, and hopefully we can take that out to Galway with us.”
