Ospreys Stadium Update April 2025

Ospreys Start Pre-Application Consultation for Redevelopment of St Helen’s

Ospreys Rugby is pleased to announce they have started the pre-application consultation (PAC) for the redevelopment of the iconic St Helen’s Sports Ground. This is an important step in engaging with the local community and gathering valuable feedback on the plans.

The hybrid planning application outlines the Ospreys two-phase vision for the future of St Helen’s. Phase 1 incudes a new and relocated 4G pitch, 3 new stands, a covering above the existing northern terrace, a fan zone with a retractable roof, and numerous other facilities to ensure the stadium is modernised and fit-for-purpose.

The outline application for phase 2 will include a purpose-built indoor training barn, gym, and various changing room and recovery facilities.

Ospreys continue to work closely with Swansea Council and other partners to ensure the redevelopment benefits everyone, remains a key part of the city’s sporting landscape, and supports the long-term sporting future of the region.

Ospreys’ CEO, Lance Bradley commented, "St Helen’s is an iconic venue with deep roots in Welsh sport, and we believe this redevelopment will help transform it into a centre for elite and community rugby alike.

“We’re happy to have reached this stage of the redevelopment of St Helen’s. The pre-application consultation is an important step in any major development and we’re grateful to GJP for the work done thus far.

“We’re excited about the future of making St Helen’s our home ground from the 2025/26 season and thankful for the conditional investment from Swansea Council. We continue to work closely with the Council not only on the redevelopment of St Helen’s, but also to ensure matchday operations are well-coordinated, deliver the best possible experience for fans, and minimise disruption for local residents."

Swansea Council Leader Rob Stewart said:

"We're happy that the Ospreys have started the pre-application consultation which will generate useful feedback on the scheme.

"Before development, the region's proposals for St Helen's will go through the full formal planning process which will give the public an opportunity to have their say.

"We continue to work with the Ospreys, Swansea Cricket Club and others on the plan for St Helen's to be redeveloped as a centre for all levels of rugby in the years to come.

"The council has conditionally agreed investment in St Helen’s, with the Ospreys planning to play there from the 2025-26 season.

"Alternative ground arrangements are being made for Swansea Cricket Club to continue playing at Wales' highest level.

"Swansea is a sporting city - and these plans are part of a wider scheme to boost sport here for future generations."
