Ospreys Head Coach, Steve Tandy, said:
“The Anglo-Welsh Cup is an exciting competition, a fantastic opportunity for young players to step up to a higher level and test themselves against new opposition, and everybody is really looking forward to Friday night.
“There’s a real buzz about the place ahead of the game. It’s a young group with three debuts in the starting line-up and three first starts, and a stack more waiting to come off the bench for a start. These are boys from the development pathway at the region, looking to shine in an Ospreys shirt at the Liberty, something they’ve all been targeting as they’ve progressed, some through our academy programme and others via the Premiership.
“When you look at some of the young talent coming through on the field it puts into perspective the hard work being done behind the scenes, and the heavy investment made as a region into development structures. Watching these youngsters enjoying being around the environment at Llandarcy, training with senior players, is fantastic. Equally as pleasing is seeing up and coming coaches like Tom Smith, Bish, Fuss and Duncan getting hands on and really enjoying shaping the future of the region they all served so well as players.
“I know that supporters love this competition as well, really enjoying seeing the next generation making their first steps as Ospreys. In Wasps, whatever the line-up they send down, we know that we’ll be up against a physical, typically English team with real strength in depth. It’s going to be fascinating to see how the team acquits itself and to see who will put their hand up to be involved in the PRO14 later this month,”
