Ospreys Wheelchair rugby took to the court at the LC2 on Saturday afternoon in the Welsh Wheelchair Rugby Open Tournament.
The Ospreys, Newport Dragons, RGC and Tiger Seals battled against the clock and each other for a full day of action.
Ospreys and Dragons were up first with both sides showing a steady head to head pace throughout the game, stepping up their defence on every turn. Scores kept bouncing back and forth until the last remaining minutes with Ospreys taking the 13-16 win.
Tiger Seals were next up for the Ospreys. Having never played against the Seals before Ospreys did not know what to expect. The first half of the game was fast and frantic, neck and neck scores all the way until the second half when the tides turned and Tiger Seals came back with vengeance to come away with a 13-22 win.
In the third match of the day Ospreys went head to head against RGC. In the first half, the Ospreys had a weak defence but made up for it in the second but RGC stole the game with attack, speed and precision. Ospreys kept on attacking but RGC kept their defence high with a score to match, winning 13-26.
Later in the afternoon Ospreys and Dragons battled it out for 3rd & 4th place. Ospreys turned up the heat and watched the Dragons melt in their attack. Ospreys defence was solid and their attack sharp, Dragons despite giving a good game faced defeat 12 – 21.
In what was a fantastic day of wheelchair rugby, Ospreys very own Claire Blackburn was voted "Most Valued Player" throughout yesterday’s tournament with teammate Bruce Falkenburg following in second place and Newport Dragons player Julian Osborne taking third.
Ospreys will be hosting the next Tournament on Sunday 14th August at LC2 Swansea. Everyone is welcome to come along and support the team on the day!
