Last weekend was one to remember for the Ospreys Youth Wheelchair Rugby squad as they claimed the silverware at the Lord Taverners National Junior WCR Championships.
Hosted at Stoke Mandeville Stadium, it was the second tournament since the partnership with Lord’s Taverners began, and saw five teams from across the UK travelling to Aylesbury to compete for the national title.
Runners-up in 2017, this year the Ospreys went one better, going through the day unbeaten, with four wins from four in the Round Robin competition before winning a nailbiting final against the reigning champions Exeter Hawks by the narrowest of margins, 11-10.
John Voss, Chairman of Ospreys Youth Wheelchair Rugby paid tribute to the youngsters, saying:
“It is fantastic to see the team develop over the past 18 months, embracing the core values of our sport. The children, parents and families embrace the development of the team both on and of the pitch, which has resulted this year in achieving the highest award in our category, winning the national competition. Thanks must also go to the Ospreys family for the constant support of the team and its development. If you fancy trying the sport, please don’t hesitate contacting us or visiting the team”
