Everyone loves to paint the town on a Saturday night once in a while, don’t they? Nowhere more so than in the Wild West of Wales.
This Saturday Ospreys take on Scarlets in the biggest game of the season as the west Wales rugby regions go head to head to become #bestofthewest and win a place in Europe’s top rugby tournament, the Heineken Champions Cup, next season.
Scarlets fans will be well versed in Painting The Town Red, in more ways than one, and they’re challenging their fans to come out in force for the game in Swansea this Saturday to Paint The Liberty Red.
The Ospreys are also putting out a call to today to their fans to not just Paint The Liberty Black, but the whole town of Swansea.
Head of Marketing and Communications for Ospreys, Jamie Rees says: "You can’t beat a night out on Wind Street Swansea, I think we can safely say that Swansea on a Saturday is the wildest place here in the Wild West of Wales. This Saturday is the biggest match that we have played in many a season and we would love to see our fans come out in force to support the team on Saturday by painting the town black."
The region, whose slogan is ‘My Blood is Black’ after Shane Williams' famous comments ahead of his final game for the Ospreys, have won four games on the bounce and a win this Saturday will see them back in the top flight of European rugby next season.
The Scarlets are world famous for their red jersey and Scarlets captain Ken Owens is encouraging as many Scarlets fans as possible to don their colours and head to Swansea to Paint The Town Red this Saturday:
“It is a local derby against our biggest rivals and they are always great occasions that bring the best out of both teams. We have had two good games against the Ospreys already this season. It will be a huge test and one we are all looking forward to."
There is a vibrancy around Welsh rugby at the moment following a Wales Grand Slam and arguably the best Judgement Day matches ever between the four regions at Principality Stadium a few weeks ago.
There has never been a more exciting time to support regional rugby in Wales and Ospreys and Scarlets are very excited to see the Liberty painted Red and Black in the name of Welsh regional rugby this weekend.
Tickets for the match are on sale now from ospreysrugby.com/buytickets or by calling the Ticket Office on 01792 616400.
