The Ospreys have confirmed that Corporate Brand Director, Paul Whapham will leave the Regional Rugby Franchise to join Hockey Wales as their new Chief Executive from March 2023.
Born in Swansea, Paul joined the Ospreys over eight years ago and spent the last four as Corporate Brand Director, as well as an elected non-executive board member of the Welsh Sports Association. He was instrumental in forming Ospreys in the Community, which has become one of the largest sports development charities in Wales.
Recently, Paul spear-headed the brand’s media and comms, leading Ospreys to become the second fastest growing social media platform in the United Rugby Championship.
Paul Whapham, commented: “Ospreys has been my family for the last 8 years and it’s been an honour to serve the team and region. Setting up Ospreys in the Community is one of my biggest achievements. Watching it grow from a team of two to over 25 employees and impacting countless lives has proven the power of sport and shown that the Ospreys is more than rugby.
Defining the Ospreys brand in recent years has allowed me to personally connect to our supporters and aided in establishing the team from grassroots to senior level. Despite moving out of the sport, Ospreys will always hold a special place in my heart and I look forward to cheering the team on from the sidelines.”
The Ospreys would like to thank Paul for his contribution to not only the Regional Rugby Franchise, but Welsh rugby overall, and wish him well in the next chapter of his career.
