Andy Williams, Player Development Officer for the Swansea District, hosted a special rugby fun day at Penyrheol Primary School recently.
Along with colleagues from the Ospreys Community Development team, former Wales and Ospreys scrum-half Williams spent the day with pupils, delivering coaching sessions for the whole school, broken down class by class.
The pupils also spent time enjoying themselves on the Ospreys rugby-themed inflatables, battling with the bungee cord as they tested their strength while attempting to score tries.
Speaking about the day, Andy said it had been a huge success:
“We are always looking at ways to encourage more youngsters to pick up a rugby ball and become active, and events like this one at Penyrheol Primary are great ways of doing just that.
“The children all had great fun while learning the basics of rugby, getting away from their desks and enjoying themselves outdoors. Some of them showed a real aptitude for rugby and those who were interested in playing the game regularly will be directed towards their local club, helping to grow the player base in the region which is essential for the long term success of the Ospreys.”
