Centre Kristian Phillips (pictured) put a season of woe behind him as he started of the new Reebok Championship by finishing off three excellent team tries in the Young Ospreys win over the Dragons.
The performance of both sides was like a mirror image of their senior sides as the Young Ospreys looked to play a high tempo wide and expansive game; while the Dragons choose to play a narrow game using their big powerful pack. It was the Young Ospreys who got on the scoresheet first through a try by centre Ashley Beck as they finally managed to convert a great deal of pressure into points. The Dragons had proven a difficult team to break down and were unfortunate when sterling defence by the Young Ospreys forced them them to knock on when over the tryline. They then scored a penalty by outside half Danny Ellis for a half time score of 5 points to 3 in the Young Ospreys favour. The half time break ceratinly suited the Young Ospreys as they scored immediately after the kick off. Wing Liam Powell (action picture) cut a hole in midfield and made a scintilating break before handing the honours on to Phillips, to score his first try; outside half Jarvis converted. Phillips added his second before wing Ryan Bayliss scored a fourth to earn a valuable bonus point. Jarvis converted one of the tries and also Phillips' hattrick try which was the final move of the match and gave a scoreline of 31 points to 3. Next up for the Young Ospreys under 18's will be a trip to Cardiff Arms Park on the 19th September and a tough fixture with the Blues.
