The Ospreys are excited to announce prop Garyn Phillips has signed a new two-year deal with the regional rugby franchise.
Phillips, 21, has signed his first professional contract with the Ospreys and is a graduate of the Ospreys Academy.
The loosehead prop is a player of real potential with a reputation as an aggressive scrummager and a high work rate around the field.
He returned to the Ospreys after impressing for the Cornish Pirates during a loan spell across the border with the English championship side.
Garyn Phillips, Wales U20s and Ospreys, said:
“It’s always a nervous time when you know your Academy contract is coming to an end but this new contract really means a lot to me and will allow me to develop my game for the next two years.
“I have been behind three internationals in the pecking order here but I have learnt so much from them. I am just really excited to see how far I can go in the next few years.
“The Ospreys sending me on loan to Cornish Pirates was just a massive experience for me. I really learnt a lot there and the standard of rugby was good and really physical.
“It has just set me up for the next season with the Ospreys. I want some game time next and to keep developing. I just need to soak everything up.
“I supported the Ospreys as a kid and to wear the jersey was a big deal and a proud moment for me. To have been on the same field as Alun Wyn Jones, who is one of my idols, when I made my European debut was a real moment for me personally.”
Duncan Jones, Ospreys First Team Coach, said:
“Garyn is another example of our continuous commitment to homegrown talent and he has all the raw materials to be a first class prop.
‘He is dynamic, with and without the ball, and is a technically aggressive scrummager which is important for a modern day loosehead prop.
“We look forward to him challenging our international looseheads over the next few seasons.”
