Donations from Ospreys players will help enable families to stay together when the little ones are in hospital.
The squad made their traditional festive visits to the children’s wards at Morriston Hospital, Swansea, and Princess of Wales Hospital, Bridgend last week, where they handed over two cheques, for £275 each, from funds raised at their annual Christmas meal.
The money will be used to purchase beds, enabling parents to stay over, and Children Services Matron at Morriston Hospital, Vicki Burridge said:
“We are so grateful for the generous donation.
“At the moment we only have six beds for parents to sleep in; so many parents do not have anywhere to sleep whilst their child is in our care.
“We are working hard to raise funds to purchase more, so this money will go a long way in helping parents feel more comfortable and will hopefully lift some stress for them knowing they have somewhere to sleep close to their child.”
Ospreys skipper, Justin Tipuric, said:
“We are proud to be an organisation that is close to the local community and are delighted to be able to make these donations from the money we collected earlier this month. To hear that the donation is going towards beds for parents is brilliant news, they will really help these unfortunate hospital stays that much easier for families. “
