The annual Ospreys in the Community beach rugby is back this month for a sixth year and it’s bigger and better than ever with almost 2,000 children participating, supported by Payton Jewell Caines.
Held at three stunning and instantly recognisable beach venues across the region, making the most of the Ospreylian coastline, the festival has firmly established itself in the school sporting calendar across the region, with every primary school in the region invited to attend.
Mixed teams of boys and girls, many of whom were playing rugby for the first time, enjoyed the chance to enjoy the sport in a relaxed and non-competitive environment.
Around 125 teams are expected to take part across the three venues, Aberavon, Rest Bay in Porthcawl and Swansea Bay.
For the first time, this year’s festival has seen Payton Jewell Caines, a leading local independent estate agent with branches in Neath, Port Talbot, Bridgend and Pencoed, lend their support as it goes from strength to strength.
John Caines, Managing Director said:
“Here at Payton Jewell Caines, we are very proud of our work in the community. We place huge importance on supporting grassroots sport and encouraging the next generation to get involved and take part in programmes like the Ospreys Beach Rugby Festivals. These initiatives are great fun and it is our absolute pleasure to see so many local children involved.”
Paul Whapham, Foundation Manager, Ospreys in the Community, said:
“Every year we say it and every year it’s true, this summer’s beach rugby festival is bigger and better than ever. We’ll have more children involved, with more activities, after we joined up with the Army to provide additional beach activities in addition to the rugby.
“We are fortunate enough in Ospreylia to be able to offer the chance for children to enjoy rugby in the unique surroundings of our fabulous coastline, and to see hundreds of children enjoying themselves at each of three events with rugby ball in hand in such a great environment is fantastic. It’s great to see everybody working together to grow participation in sport, getting children outdoors and active, promoting healthier lifestyles for our children.
“We couldn’t do this without the support of local business like PJC who recognise the value to the community of encouraging children to be active and we appreciate their assistance.”
