Ospreys legend, Shane Williams, has linked up with the region once again, almost four years after his final appearance in the famous shirt, accepting an ambassadors role.
The flying winger, whose 57 tries in 141 games remains an Ospreys record, 20 more than the next on the list, signed off after the 2012 Guinness PRO12 Final in Dublin, his brace helping to see the Ospreys home to a fourth league title.
Since retiring fully from the sport a little over two years ago, the Ospreys ‘Original’ has been a director of Star Multifuels, helping to establish the company as a major fuel supplier in south and west Wales.
He was the first ever recipient of the Lifetime Achievement award at the Ospreys end of season dinner in 2015.
In his new ambassadorial role with the Ospreys, Shane will host a number of selected corporate hospitality events, both at the Liberty Stadium and away from the home of the Ospreys.
First up, he will join guests at the Clayton Hotel, Cardiff, after the Wales v England Six Nations clash on Saturday 11th February, as the Ospreys commercial team once again host business partners for international day.
Further Ospreys legends will be confirmed in similar ambassadors roles shortly.
Speaking about his new role, Shane said:
“Everybody knows that I’m an Osprey through and through. I was given my chance to play professionally at Neath and then was at the Ospreys from the start of regional rugby, enjoying nine great years.
“Since retiring, through Star Multifuels, I’ve learned the importance of good business networking opportunities, which makes this new role doubly satisfying. Not only am I back with the Ospreys, I can also enjoy the fantastic corporate side of the business, which has always led the way.”
Huw Warren, Commercial Manager, Ospreys Rugby, said:
“It’s great to be able to welcome Shane back to the Ospreys as an ambassador. The appointment comes at an exciting time for us, on and off the field, and he will considerably enhance our growing hospitality offering.
“His appointment is just the first, with more to come, and we are looking forward to working closely with him, starting with our international day event in Cardiff next month.”
