It was a happy return to the Llandarcy Academy of Sport for the Young Ospreys as they achieved a convincing win against the Dragons yesterday (Wednesday) in a Reebok under 16 match.
Surprisingly they went in at the interval 8 points to 7 in arrears after dominating both territory and possession. Again this isn't new ground for the under 16 team as they seem to make a habit of trailing at half time and then coming out all guns blazing in the second period. Obviously Head Coach Alex Evans and his assistants Paul Yardley and David Jones know what to say during the ten minute interval. In the first period the Dragons kicked a penalty by outside half Lewis Robling and wing Alex Cooper finished off an excellent team try. It was important that the Young Ospreys got some reward for all their pressure during this first period and eventually they did when wing Bryan Barlow demonstrated his appetite for scoring, with a try in the corner; full back Pridey kicked the conversion. The Young Ospreys dominated the second period and scored four more tries as Barlow added another, wing Eli Walker scored a further brace and inside centre Andrew Collins finished off an a very good nights work with a try between the posts. Pridey converted three for a final score of 33 points to 8. This match started a busy 15 days for the the under 16 group as next Wednesday (19th) they have a 2.30pm kick off in a friendly fixture against North Wales at a venue yet to be decided. Then on the 27th they will have a 2pm kick off against the Scarlets at Narberth RFC; a fixture that will test the development of this team to the full as presently it seems that these two teams are fighting for the runners up spot and a place in the Reebok Final.
