Our 24/25 EPCR Challenge Cup campaign has kicked off with a cool new look for the boys. All Ospreys squad players now have a superhero alter ego ready to step into the spotlight on our matchday graphics when they cross the line or slot a kick.
Our European style has developed from classic comic book imagery and first appeared in our 23/24 season:
After positive feedback and an ongoing campaign to engage our youngest supporters, the Ospreys design team were on a mission to step it up this year.
"Can we make all of the players into cartoons?" asked well-meaning CEO, Lance Bradley.
"...yes, but I'd have draw all 47 by hand," replied our long-suffering graphic designer.
"Let's try one and see how it looks..."
We used reference pictures to recreate iconic moments and familiar stances for the boys, recreating them in our striking 24/25 European kit. Here's how our initial sketches for Jack Walsh progressed:
Once we saw him come to life, there was no doubt that the full squad would have to follow.
Each player was put under the microscope as we decided which pose would best illustrate their talents on the pitch: a stretching lineout jump for Adam Beard, a scrum-winning fist pump from Sam Parry, and a few choice words from Harri Deaves in his iconic yellow scrumcap, to name a few.
After approval from the squad, our super players launched for our first EPCR fixture against Emirates Lions. The boys powered through Storm Darragh to a convincing four try win over Emirates Lions, and their cartoon alter ego's were happy to take the credit:
We'll see plenty more of our Ospreys superheroes as our European season continues, but scoring points won't be the only way for each player to enter the spotlight... Keep yours eyes peeled for big news coming soon 👀
