TAGMania a hit at the Liberty

Almost 350 young players took to the pitch at the Liberty for the region's first TAGMania event on Sunday afternoon.

Sponsored by CK's Supermarkets the first ever Ospreys TAGMania event took place at a sun soaked Liberty Stadium, 30 teams from 20 clubs from across Ospreylia took to the field for a day of TAG rugby fun.

It's the first time the Liberty Stadium has been opened for such an event, which allowed the youngsters a rare opportunity to take to the pitch just like their Ospreys heroes, and the community to come and support them.

Tom Sloane, Community Rugby Officers at the Ospreys, said:

"It has been fantastic to welcome so many young players, coaches and families from our grassroots clubs to the home of the Ospreys. It's wonderful to be able to reward them for all their hard work over the season and hopefully they have all enjoyed their day. For the Under 8's sides it's their last TAG tournament before they move onto playing contact rugby next year, so they certainly went out in style.

“I’d like to thank CK’s Supermarkets for their support of this fantastic event, without which we wouldn’t have been able to throw open the doors of the stadium to the community clubs for such a memorable afternoon of rugby.

"Our thanks also go to all the people on the ground that helped ensure today could be such a success; the players and coaches who took part, the supporters who came to cheer them on, the district representatives that helped ensure the event ran smoothly and our volunteers who were on the pitch refereeing the 78 games that took place.”

As well as getting to take to the field, the young players got to meet Ozzie and have an official team photograph with him before going home with some treats courtesy of CK's Supermarkets and official TAGMania Certificates of Participation.

Mark Davies, Coach at Loughor RFC said his young players had really enjoyed their experience at the Liberty Stadium:

"We've had a fabulous day, absolutely fabulous. They've had a great time especially getting to play on the pitch, which has been excellently marked up. The whole day has been set up so well, the weather has helped and my boys have really enjoyed."
