Thomas & Price ready for Bedford

After the Premiership Select opened their British & Irish Cup with a 24-6 defeat to defending champions Munster A, the young group were straight back into training at Llandarcy this week.

A pivotal figure in the Premiership Select backline, centre Joe Thomas who featured in last weekend’s game having featured in all 12 of the team's previous outings in the competition, said:

“This week it’s all about learning from where we went wrong on the weekend. We played really well in the first half but let ourselves down in the second. Our execution wasn’t the best and we’re looking to put that right this weekend.”

Looking for their first win in this year's competition, the Ospreys Premiership Select travel to Goldington Road on Saturday to face Bedford Blues, who clinched a 26-38 win over Nottingham in the tournament last weekend.

Thomas said: “Obviously looking at Bedford we’re looking at where we can attack them and where we can get good outcomes. They’re a very well organised side, have a big pack and the backs like to play wide rugby.”

Despite the result, the squad learnt from their performance against Munster, which Thomas says they’ve been putting into practice during this week’s training.

"Defensively we’ve got to be on point and know our roles going into the game, but we’ve got to focus on ourselves this week and not too much on them, especially on what we did wrong and how we can control the game ourselves.”

Set to make his return from a six week layoff, after picking up a foot ligament injury during preseason, Luke Price is ready to get back out on the field with the rest of the squad.

Price said: “We’re all still really excited about this competition, the boys did pretty well last week apart from the result. It’ll be nice for us all to go up and put in a good performance against a really top quality team like Bedford.

“I feel good, feel fit, the foot is really good now, I’m ready and i’m just looking forward to go out there Saturday and get some good game time under my belt and hopefully get the first win with the boys this year.”
