The Young Osprey under 16's qualified for the Final of the Reebok Championships with a hard fought win over the Blues North at Pontypridd RFC on Wednesday evening (27th).
Unfortunately, the result was tainted by the news that influential full back Tom Pridey (pictured) suffered a fractured collar bone. It is a double blow for Pridey as not only will he miss next weeks final but he is also highly likely to miss out on the trip to France to play for the Welsh Schools in a 4 Nations Tournament for which he has been selected. Before leaving the field Pridey made an impact with a penalty and two conversions of the tries scored by 2nd row Ben Davies (pictured), replacement wing Kyle Blackmore (pictured) and two for wing Bowdy Davies (pictured); Davies also kicked one conversion. The Young Ospreys shot into an early 17 point to nil advantage but the Blues North pegged them back with 15 unanswered points with tries from Thomas Young, Ben Jones and Jack Gibbon. However, in the last 10 minutes of the game the Young Ospreys eased the tension amongst their management staff by making the game safe with two tries and deserved 29 points to 15 victory. Next up for the squad are training sessions at Llandarcy Academy of Sport on Sunday and Monday; while WRU skills coach Gruff Rees will also take a goal kicking clinic with selected players at the Gnoll on Monday. Then it is back to Pontypridd RFC for the final shout out of the season when they face the North again.
