Umbro, Official Technical Kit Supplier to Ospreys, has today revealed the brand-new home and away kits to be worn by the Welsh rugby franchise for the 2021/22 season, as they take flight into a new and exciting era.
Inspired by the proud Ospreys identity, both the home and away kits boast a classic look at first glance while a closer look reveals an experimental tone-on-tone design, with subtle geometric shapes forming an osprey mask.
It is no coincidence that this mirrors the ambitious trajectory of the rugby franchise; acknowledging the robust rugby roots while boasting an innovative new approach to rugby style and trends. A direct reflection of the Ospreys as a team and an organisation.
Designed and created alongside the Ospreys players and staff, a special sign off on the nape of the jersey features four coloured dots, representing Ospreys’ semi-professional clubs of Swansea RFC, Neath RFC, Aberavon RFC, and Bridgend RFC.
The iconic double diamond of Umbro, has nearly one hundred years of experience in the development of performance products across multiple sports. The latest kit to be worn by Ospreys is another fine example of how Umbro continue to develop innovative product for the top tier of the sport.
Sam Lucas, Director of Sports Marketing - Umbro, commented: “Ospreys and Umbro both have proud histories, but have a great ambition to be innovative and forward thinking.
“We have taken great pride in developing these jerseys that will represent the club and its supporters both in the heartlands of Welsh rugby, and globally throughout the coming season.
“Today’s launch continues our reintegration back into rugby and we are incredibly excited to see the reaction to the kit from Ospreys supporters.”
Nick Garcia, Ospreys Chief Executive added: “Today we launch the first of many exciting and iconic jerseys in our new partnership with Umbro.
“While focusing on our traditional black home kit and dynamic away strip, we’ve taken our jerseys in a new direction that we hope will unite supporters and give them something to wear with pride in the forthcoming season where we can finally welcome them back to the stands.
“We have also listened to supporter feedback and reduced the price of our jersey while maintaining the quality expected by our players and supporters alike. This partnership and collaboration with Umbro signals a fresh statement of intent from the Ospreys. An alignment of ambition and growth to take the Ospreys from Wales to the world; engaging a global and more diverse supporter base.”
